Kahun and ViTel Net Join Forces to Supercharge AI-Powered Clinical Assessment

The average physician today spends about two hours on paperwork for every one hour they spend with a patient. This is a primary reason why there is an alarming shortage of physicians in the U.S. A physician would need an impossible 26.7 hours in a day to provide the recommended level of care to the average patient.

This shortage is not only causing patients to suffer, but it is also increasing stress on the physicians, who are at increased risk of burnout and reduced performance. To help alleviate the strain on the healthcare system, two leaders in healthcare technology have joined forces.

Kahun, which provides an AI-based clinical reasoning engine for doctors, has teamed up with ViTel Net, a pioneer in virtual care technology, to advance clinical assessment capabilities in primary and urgent healthcare settings.

This strategic partnership will use Kahun’s AI chatbot to streamline the patient intake process. The AI chatbot is embedded into ViTel Net’s patented VCareCommand platform, where it will conduct patient interviews for intake, adapting its questions based on patient responses.

The results will be then fed into the electronic health records (EHR), reducing the time doctors spend on intake evaluation, and spending more time with the patient and developing treatment plans. The vCareCommand platform is designed for integration with all standards-based EHR systems.

The AI chatbot will use Kahun’s proprietary knowledge graph and reasoning engine to dynamically adapt its questions to the patient. The competitive advantage of Kahun is that its reasoning engine relies on evidence-based knowledge cited in medical textbooks and peer-reviewed articles. The doctors can even trace the GenAI output to the original medical publication to gather more information.

In an interview with Datanami, Michal Tzuchman Katz MD, Kahun’s Co-Founder and CEO, shared that “the uniqueness of Kahun’s technology is that its knowledge graph is completely transparent in its sources so end users can easily trace the sources.”

Michal further shared that, “this explainability and transparency are both vital attributes for empowering the physicians with a deeper understanding of their patient’s needs and also enabling them to trust the output of the AI engine.”

The U.S. healthcare industry is one most heavily regulated sectors and launching an AI-powered solution could be challenging. The regulatory framework for AI in healthcare is still evolving. However, Michal believes their solution is equipped to handle the regulatory and compliance requirements.

“The regulatory path for generative AI models is still in process. Kahun adds a unique layer of transparency and explainability that ensures the end users are compliant with the AI regulatory principles that are being established.” It is worth noting that Kahun is HIPPA and GDPR-compliant.

Michal pointed out that one of the challenges for this type of solution is that end users can find it challenging to interact with the software and to overcome this hurdle, Kahun has worked extensively with ViTel Net to offer a highly intuitive and user-friendly interface that works for a wide range of population.

Kahun has also conducted case studies to test their solution. Michal shared in her interview that the company was able to achieve an impressive “32 percent reduction in visit times for healthcare providers”. If Kahun and ViTel Net can replicate these results at scale, it could revolutionize how patient intake works.
